SKARDU: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that Skardu airport has been renovated to international standards.
The Skardu airport is fully prepared to restart international flight operations Today, Thursday, December 2, according to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.
The airport’s status has been upgraded to international. The move is part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s aim to increase tourism and economic growth in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan.

He said that the new measures would be announced in the near future. “The airport’s runway is being widened for wide-body aircraft landings,” Sarwar disclosed, adding that the government is also contemplating establishing a new airport near Gilgit.
All aircraft, both morning and evening, will land at Skardu airport. A new program aimed at assisting aircraft during low-visibility takeoffs and landings.
Skardu airport is situated at an elevation of nearly 7,000 feet. It is one of the world’s highest altitude airports, located between the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges.
Its main runway is 12,000 feet long, while its secondary runway is 8,500 feet long.

It’s worth noting that a CAA team had previously performed a study to establish if international planes could land at the airport, and as a test flight, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus-320 landed
