After a break of seven long years, Capital Development Authority (CDA) has finally resolved a dispute with a previous contractor to pave the way towards restarting the project of construction of a road from G.T. Road to D-12.
MARGALLA ROAD
CDA started this project, worth PKR 588 million in 2012. It includes construction of an 8.5km portion of Margalla Road.
Authorities had to complete this project in 2013. However, due to various reasons including possession of land in a portion, the contractor after doing base work, abandoned the project . Therefore, the project got delayed.
He said we will award the contract for work on 6.5km of the road. However, the authority will realign the remaining 2km because of the presence of a century-old graveyard on that part, before beginning work on construction.

According to the city’s master plan, the proposed Margalla Road passes by the foothills of G.T. Road till the end of Bhara Kahu but it could not be constructed. People wrongly refer to Khayaban-i-Iqbal as Margalla Road.
SECOND PHASE
In the second phase of the road project, they added, CDA will construct the road from Constitution Avenue till Bhara Kahu. So, for this purpose, talks are underway with a consultant.
He said the federal government was pushing the CDA to work on this project because people have suffered due to traffic load on Srinagar Highway and other roads.
“Once we construct these two phases of Margalla Road , traffic coming from the Kashmir, Motorway .and New Airport will be able to use it as a bypass road,” he added.
