A seed ball drive at Margalla Hills Trails.
Volunteers of the Capital City have distributed 10,000 seed balls among Islamabad citizens as a seeds ball campaign launched – throw and grow. This campaign is started at the Margalla Hills to promote planting trees with internationally-recognized easy methods in the country.
DC Islamabad launched the seed ball campaign in collaboration with the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB). The campaign invited the people from civil societies, media, and other walks of life to the most visited trails, including trail three, five, and six of the Margalla Hills.
They had set a target of 20,000 seed balls to be distributed among the public in connection with monsoon rains to cope with climate change’s deteriorating situation across the world.
The 5,000 balls were available at information centers of the different trails. The relevant authority will also distribute other 5,000 seed balls after collecting the seeds from Margalla Hills. They will spread the seeds among the visitors educating the former to throw it in the open and feasible area, said Tassadaq.
He said that the campaign received an encouraging response as around 50 people from various walks of life, including families living near the trails, participated in this drive.
“The success rate of this method is over 50 percent comparing traditional plantation of 10 percent,” Tassadaq said. Keeping in mind the lowest position of Pakistan in the region regarding land versus green area, h they came up with this concept of planting a tree without any hassle. Compared to conventional practice that needed much effort, this is a more straightforward way.
He said that we had selected the seeds of Lebbek, Kachnar, Pine, Shun Flower, Amaltas, Kikar trees for the seeds ball. He said we would inform the buyers about the feasible area of those seeds.
It is essential to mention that ‘let’s plant a tree,’ a public-backed campaign, gaining momentum. However, it started just a couple of months ago. It is motivating the masses to play their role for the national cause. Such acts show that the public has begun taking an interest in growing plants to save their children’s future.
