Lahore: LUMS Students Develop App that Provides Guided Tours of Lahore’s Walled City
Students from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) have developed the ‘Lahori Khoji ‘smartphone app, which offers guided tours of the walled city of Lahore.
LUMS professor and historian Dr. Ali Usman Qasmi, while sharing app details on social media, said that “students designed the app and researched its content as part of a course offered at LUMS.”.
He said the students who developed the app had done extensive research on the subject before designing and developing the smartphone application
‘The students not only read the classical texts but also made several trips to the walled city,’ explained Professor Qasmi.

Faizan Abbas Naqvi, a historian based in Lahore, also assisted the students in developing the app.
My friend and Lahore-based historian, Faizan Abbas Naqvi, aka Lahore ka Khoji, worked closely with the students to supervise their research and curate their walking trails.#walkinginlahore #LahoriKhoji

He explained that “in case there are factual or technical errors or misinformation in the text, please let us know so that we can fix it” because the application was developed as a final year project by university students and not by historians.
Special thanks to @Azanbinzahid and Taimoor, who worked on the App as part of their senior year project. They continued to work on it even after graduating from LUMS last year. Brilliant work, friends👏👏👏#walkinginlahore #LahoriKhoji

Please note that the App is a product of research carried out by undergraduate students who are not professional historians. In case there is any factual or technical error or misinformation in the text, please let us know so that we can fix it.#walkinginlahore #LahoriKhoji

Overview To Lahore Walled City
Lahore Walled City (“Inner City”), also known as the Old City, forms the historical core of Lahore, Pakistan. The city was founded around 1000 AD in the western half of the walled city, fortified by a mud wall during the Middle Ages.
The fortified city became famous after being chosen as the Mughal capital, which resulted in the construction of the Lahore Fort, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the new reinforced city walls.
The walled city received numerous monuments during the Mughal era, and some of Lahore’s most iconic structures are found in the walled city, such as the richly decorated Wazir Khan Mosque, the massive Badshahi Mosque, and the Shahi Hammam.
Under Sikh rule, the city was again chosen as the capital and the walled city stood out again with numerous religious buildings built in the walled city at that time, including Ranjit Singh’s Samadhi and Gurdwara Janam Asthan Guru Ram Das.
The Walled City today remains the cultural heart of Lahore, and is home to many of its tourist attractions
