DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FOR RAJA BAZAAR
Chairman Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Tariq Mehmood Murtaza on Monday (7.11.2020) chaired a committee meeting on urban projects for the historic centre Raja Bazaar.
The main plans are to highlight Rawalpindi’s heritage, improve living conditions in Raja Bazaar and traffic system, increase tourism, urban regeneration in Sarafa and Bhabra Bazaars. It also includes conservation of Sujan Singh Haveli and street improvement. As a result, it will promote sustainable urban mobility in the historic Rawalpindi Bazaar. Providing resilience strategy for Rawalpindi and livelihood opportunities through job creation & entrepreneurship, says a press release.
For instance, Tariq said improving the traffic system in Raja Bazaar and the water sewerage system was very important. He asked the Wapda authorities to submit an estimation of the project relating to induction of electric wires in a pipeline. Chairman RDA decided to launch the Sarafa Bazaar and Sujan Singh Haveli projects by February 2021.
The meeting was held in the RDA conference room and attended by various stakeholders from the government and community.
A representative from Metropolitan Corporation Rawalpindi, Walled City of Lahore Authority, DSP Traffic Police, Dr Naveed Iftikhar head of Urban Platform UNDP, Indus Heritage Trust, Akhter Hameed Khan Trust and Chairman of Traders Association and community, Sh Asif Idrees President of Jewelers Association and Muhammad Junaid Taj Bhatti Deputy Director Finance RDA attended the meeting. The RDA would hold the next meeting after two weeks.
