Govt urged to resolve Malam Jabba Closure Issue

Islamabad: The government has urged to solve the problem of the closure of Malam Jabba because this complex plays a fundamental role in promoting tourism.

Lawyers should help interested parties to promote tourism rather than drag them to court for the subsequent closure of tourism promotion sites.

Shedding light on the closure of the Malam Jabba site by court order, the vice president of the Mardan Association of Lawyers Ashraf Ali urged the government to do everything possible to restore tourism activities in the area that provides employment to beautify.

Overview To Malam Jaba

Malam Jabba (also known Maalam Jabba) is a Hill Station and ski resort in the Hindu Kush mountain range nearly 40 km from Saidu Sharif in Swat Valley, Khyber  Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan.Malam Jabba is home to one of the two ski resorts in Pakistan; the other is at Naltar, Gilgit Baltistan. The Malam Jabba Ski Resort, owned by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, had a ski slope of about 800m with the highest point of the slope 2804 m (9200 ft) above sea level. Malam Jabba Ski Resort was the joint effort of the Pakistan with its Austrian counterpart. The resort was equipped with modern facilities including roller/ice-skating rinks, chair lifts, skiing platforms, telephones and snow clearing equipment.

He further stated that certain rules and regulations must be followed to promote tourism in the region and attract investment, adding that courts must refrain from judicial overriding. It is important to mention here that the Supreme Court stopped the judicial mockery in March 2021.

He said the Peshawar High Court should be contacted to review its decision regarding the entrance fee to the Malam Jabba complex which led to its closure to the public.

A bench of the Mingora High Court has banned the resort management from charging entrance fees to the tourist site on a petition from some lawyers in the area.
