Digital Pakistan – PTCL successfully conducts 5G trial

On February 11,2021, the PTCL group successfully tested its 5G network in a controlled environment at its headquarters in Islamabad in a limited environment on a non-commercial basis to achieve download speeds of up to 1,685 gigabytes per second (GBPS).

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Aminul Haque said: “I am delighted to be present at this crucial event as the PTCL Group takes an important step to conduct a successful trial of 5G technology in Pakistan. I believe that communication plays an important role in socio-economic development and in improving financial inclusion in the country. 5G technology will certainly enable an emerging technological environment, opening up opportunities for industries, individuals and an ecosystem conducive to economic prosperity in Pakistan. “

Meanwhile, IT and Telecommunication Secretary Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui said, “We are committed to the Prime Minister’s vision of a digital & broadband Pakistan. The success of the PTCL Group’s 5G trial is an important step that will pave the way for the digitization of Pakistan. This technology will open new ventures in various departments such as education, health, safety, communication that will have a positive social and economic impact in our country”.

Addressing the issue, Nadeem Khan (Acting Chief Executive Officer) and (Chief Financial Officer)of the PTCL Group, said, “PTCL has served the nation since 1947 as an integral part of everyone’s life in the country. With a successful 5G trial in a limited environment, we believe this technology will unlock new realities of ehealth, smart homes and cities, agriculture, autonomous vehicles, cloud computing, the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. “

PTCL Group’s 5G-enabled remote surgery demonstration, successfully tested for the first time in Pakistan, will allow people living in remote areas to potentially have access to the best medical facilities available anywhere in the world.”
