NEW PLANS TO END TRAFFIC ISSUES IN ISLAMABAD
In a bid to reduce rush hour traffic issues in Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has instructed the Engineering, Finance, and Planning departments to prepare a feasibility report for construction plans.
Reportedly, CDA will carry out the project in phases. The first phase will include construction of flyovers and underpasses on Margalla Road in F-10 and E-11. Especially in the areas with traffic congestion issues, specifically during peak hours. The media report also suggests that the project will commence in February 2021.
CDA officials in the meeting discussed traffic issues at F-10 Markaz, link point of 9th Avenue and Blue Area, F-11 area and Tramri area. The chairman CDA said it is not necessary to have underpasses on all roads, but “we will explore options”.
“I have asked engineering wing that before proposing new underpasses. And to prepare a conceptual plans. However, if underpasses are necessary, we will go for their construction. I believe, in some areas, with little intervention, traffic issue could be resolved without underpass,” he said.
On 17 December, the Minister of Interior, ordered the removal of all security check posts from the roads of Islamabad. This was done to help the flow of traffic. Consequently, 18 of 21 check posts were removed by the authorities. He told the media that the new smart patrol cars would replace the check posts.
Sheikh Rashid announced at a press conference yesterday that only three check posts, two near luxury hotels and one on Margalla Road, would remain functional.
TRAFFIC ISSUES IN ISLAMABAD
Besides other areas, the people of Islamabad have to face long queues and traffic congestion at the edge of 7th Avenue and Srinagar Highway near Aabpara.
CDA recently completed the construction of an underpass on the Islamabad Expressway between G8 and G7 to ease the traffic flow in that area. U-turns present on the main expressway were the reasons of blockage. The development authority has more than 63 projects lined up for the future of Islamabad as well.
