Traffic plan amid PDM protest

PDM’S PROTEST

The Islamabad Traffic police has issued a traffic plan amid the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) protest. PDM will protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan in the federal capital today (19.1.2021)

PDM will start from the garrison city and head towards Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the federal capital.

The Rawalpindi administration has finalized the traffic and security plans for the movement of convoys of the PDM heading towards the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to stage a protest.

As per revised program of PDM, the local leadership of the parties will be heading the rallies.

TRAFFIC PLAN BY CTP

The authorities will direct the convoy towards Islamabad from Murree Road. A City Traffic Police (CTP) official told the sources that the caravan of Jamiate Ulema Fazl (JUI-F) would march towards Islamabad using Murree Road. The convoy of Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) would enter Islamabad from Faizabad after passing through Murree Road.

Further, the Rawalpindi police have also formulated a comprehensive security plan for maintaining law and order until the protesters leave Rawalpindi and enter Islamabad.

Under the plan, they will deploy more police force on Murree Road. However,  the patrolling vans would be stationed sporadically as well.

The police officials would be stationed atop buildings in Liaqauat Bagh, Rehmanabad, and Shamsabad.

The police official said that we will provide alternative routes to the road users going to Islamabad to reach there. Meanwhile, CTP has also devised a traffic plan for the day.

CTP Spokesperson said that additional wardens would perform duties on Murree Road including on the bridges and in the underpasses. The traffic personnel would ensure the uninterrupted movement of the participants of the rally headed to the federal capital.

Rawalpindi police would cover the range until the Faizabad interchange and after this point security and traffic flow would be the responsibility of the Islamabad police.

The operations wing of the Islamabad police have chalked out a comprehensive security plan for gathering of PDM in the capital.

Security plan in place for PDM rally

Firstly, authorities will not allow the participants of the rally to park vehicles on Murree Road while leaving for Islamabad.

Secondly, according to the plan, traffic police will allow the vehicles to be parked at the Convention Centre. Whereas, they will divert  the commuters coming from the GT Road and Motorway to the Srinagar Highway.

Authorities will not let the citizens and protestors to park their vehicles at the Shahrai-e-Dastoor. Moreover, they have instructed the Judges and the people coming to Red Zone to use Margala Road.

It is worth mentioning that PDM has announced to stage a protest outside the commission today.

Simultaneously, the government has announced not to stop PDM from protest. However, Government has warned that the law will take its course if the protestors will challenge the writ of the state.

Referring to the protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office, JUI-F president Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that PDM scheduled march will be a protest and not an attack.
